[All day event] CHARITY is giving a bolt to a competitor

The Italian team of Monti and Siorpraes was heavily favored to win the Oly mpic bobsled event in 1964, in Germany. They had great first and second ru ns; but a little-regarded British team of Nash and Dixon had an even great er first run. Their axle broke, however, just before their scheduled seco nd run. They were crushed.
To the amazement of everyone, Monti remo ved the bolt from his Italian sled and gave it to the British team. Hash an d Dixon went on to win the gold in a tremendous upset victory, while Monti ans Siorpraes settled for the bronze.
In a bit of poetic jus tice, Monti would lead the Italian two-and-four man sleds to gold medals f our years later. ~ Mark Link, S.J.
The sportmanship of the Italian team is a beautiful image of the kind of love Jesus invites us to show our enemies in our daily lives. How well do we as Knights demonstrate true spor tsmanship?

[All day event] Song of Bernadette (Lourdes 1858)

In 1858, a girl named Bernadette reported apparitions of Ma ry at a hillside in Lourdes, France.
Sick people visited the site and w ere cured. Over, 1,300 cures are well documented.
In the 1930s, A lexis Carrel, a skeptical New York surgeon and Nobel Prize winner, went t o Lourdes to investigate the claims. While there, he witnessed a girl bein g cured. He stood in silence, totally stunned. That night, he went for a long walk. Ending up in a church, he prayed:
"I still doubt... Bene ath... intellectual pride a smothered dream persists... the dream of believ ing."
He returned to his hotel and recorded his observations. In The Voyage of Lourdes, he describes what then happened:
"A n ew coolness penetrated the open window. I felt the serenity of nature enter my soul with gentle calm. All intellectual doubts had vanished." ~ Mar k Link, S.J.
