On this date in 1981, in Fatima, Portugal, Pope John Paul II said to the million of people attending: "On this very day last year... in Rome, the attempt on my life was made in mysterious coincidence with t he anniversary of the first apparition at Fatima on May 13, 1917. I seemed to recognize in the coincidence of the date a special call to come to this place. And so today I am here."
After Mass, the Holy Father asked Mary, the mother of Jesus, to intercede for the world as she did for the married couple at Cana. He ended by asking the Spirit for this grace: "Let there be revealed once more in the history of the world the infinite power of merciful love." ~ Mark Link, S.J.
How is the infinite power of G od's love being revealed through the works of the Knights right now?
"Divine love is a sacred flower, which in early bud is happi ness, and in its full bloom is heaven....

"What profit would there be for one to gain the whole world and forfeit his life?" ~ Matthew 16:26
In 1917 Theordore Rooseve lt expressed well the priority in each our lives to attend church in commun ity. He suggested that in this world a churchless community, a community w here men have abandoned and scoffed at or ignored their religious needs, i s a community on the rapid downgrade. He argued that while marriages could be dissolved through divorce, if done so on a wide scale, would mean the complete moral disintegration of our society.
He admonished all to a ttend Sunday church as a family. He acknowledged the argument of many who d o not go, that they can worship anywhere, that it didn't need to be done in a Church. But he went on to say, "I also know as a matter of cold fact the average man does not thus worship or thus dedicate himself."
We should listen closely to our pastor's sermons. You may not always hear a go od sermon, but it will be a sermon by a good man...

"He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly wi th your God." ~ Micah 6:8
St. Isidore is the patron saint of farmers and rural communities. Isidore was born in Madrid; as a young b oy, he went to work for a wealthy landowner. He would labor there for the rest of his life. He was a model worker and a very devout Christian. Every day he rose early in the morning to attend Mass - sometimes, according to fellow workers, showing up late for work because he spent too much time in prayer. Isidore would pray while plowing in the fields, and it's even sai d that angels would sometimes help him with his work.
Many of us desire to build a successful career, changing jobs when better opportu nities arise and perhaps even becoming our own bosses. God's grace can be e xperienced in such a lifestyle, but this measure of success is not require d for holiness. St. Isidore had no need to bec...

When the Civil War broke out, Oliver Wendell Holmes volunteered for the Union and was wounded three times in thr ee different battles. After the war, he graduated from Harvard Law School , became a Supreme Court justice in 1902, and served until his death in 19 35. He said in a speech late in his life:
"As I grow older, I grow calm... I do not lose my hopes... I think it probable that civilization wil l somehow last as long as I care to look ahead... I think it not improbable that man like the grub that prepares a chamber for the winged thing it has never seen.. may have cosmic destinies he does not understand." ~ Mark Lin k, S.J.

Once upon a time there was a child ready to be born. One day the child asked God: How am I going to live on earth being so small and helpless? Among the angels I chose one for you. She will care for you. But, here in Heaven, I don't do anything else but s ing and smile. Your angel will sing for you and will also smile for you every day. And you will feel your angel's love and be happy. And what am I going to do when I want to talk to You? Your angel will place your hands together and teach you to pray. I've heard that on earth there ar e bad men. Who will protect me? Your angel will defend you even if it me ans risking its life. But I will always be...

Glenn Van Ekeren gives seminars on maximizing human potential. He is fond of telling the story about a basketball coach who had the rare art of inspiring teams with the courage to fight back when things looked impossible. During the h alftime of one difficult game, he stood before the team and yelled, "Did Michael Jordan ever quit?" The team yelled back, "No!"
The coach ye lled, "Did Cal Ripken, Jr. ever quit?" The team yelled, "No!" "What abou t the Wright brothers? Did they quit?" "No!" yelled the team. Then the coac h shouted, "And what about Elmer McAllister. Did he ever quit?" There was a awkward pause. Then the team captain said, "Coach, we never heard of hi m." "Of course you didn't!" shouted the coach. "He quit!" ~ Mark Link, S.J .
