"My teaching and message were not delivered with skillful wo rds... but with convincing proof of the power of God's Spirit." ~ 1 Cor inthians 2:4
TV celebrity Malcolm Muggeridge interviewed Mother Tere sa of Calcutta. The verdict of the videotaped interview was that it was har dly usable. Mother Teresa's delivery was halting and her accent was thick. One BBC official, however, felt that the interview had a mysterious power and decided to air it on a Sunday night. Response to the program was amazi ng - both in terms of mail and contributions. What came through was not "sk illful words" but "the power of God's Spirit" speaking through Mother Teres a - the same power that Paul talks about in today's Bible reading. ~ Mark L ink, S.J.

"As you enter a house, wish it peace. If the house is worth y, let your peace come upon it; if not, let your peace return to you. Wh oever will not receive you or listen to your words - go outside that house or town and shake the dust from your feet." ~ Matthew 10:12-14
S chool children were cutting across the lawn of an elderly couple, wearing an ugly path in it. At first this only annoyed the couple. But soon annoyan ce turned into anger. The couple knew something had to be done. The situati on was wrecking their peace of mind. The couple's solution was beautiful. T hey put crushed gravel on the path, lined it with flowers, and set a benc h next to it. Then one afternoon, as when school let out, they sat on the bench and greeted the children. The children responded wonderfully. They t hanked the couple for the path and sat and chatted with them. ~ Mark Link, S.J.
