"Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no e vil for you are with me; your rod and your staff give me courage." ~ P salm 23:4
We need fear no evil, because the power of God can conque r evil. Evil has power to seriously hurt only those who do not place themse lves under God's protection. This is not a question of feeling, it is an a ssured fact of our experience. We can say to ourselves with assurance that whatever it is, no evil can seriously harm us as we depend on God. We can be sure of the protection of God's grace. ~ Fr. Pat Umberger
Pray th at fear of evil will not discourage us. Pray that we may try to place ourse lves under the protection of God's grace.
What dark valley to you walk now? Have you turned to your Brother Knights for support? < br>Recall Psalm 23 in its entirety, what "green pastures and safe waters" has God brought your way?

"Jonathan said to David, "Whatever you want me to do, I'll do it for you." ~ 1 Samuel 24:4
One of the great values of the Knights of Columbus are that it promotes relationships with other men who a re truthful and real. Many men carry deep, deep hurts that need to be heal ed and men need to build trustful relationships to begin to address those h urts. When events occur in a man's life that threaten his self-concept and he is so overwhelmed with events he finds difficult to deal with; he may n ot be able to bring himself y\to get out of bed in the morning. Sometimes the pain goes deeper and into the past.
In all these situations, me n need to be ministered to by other men by praying together, working toget her and playing together. It may mean listening to a man who has never reve aled the brutal details of his darkest combat days in Vietnam.
Men a re afraid other men will reject them if they show any weakness, so they ke ep their emotions to themselves. The community o...

"Give thanks to the LORD'" ~ Psalm 107:1
Peter Ma rshall spoke this prayer before the Senate of the United States:
"Ou r Father in heaven, if ever we had cause to offer unto Thee our thanks, s urely it is now, on the eve of our Thanksgiving Day, when we the people o f this nation are comfortable, well fed, well clad and blessed with good things beyond our deserving. May gratitude, the rarest of all vi rtues, be the observance.... May our glorious heritage, remind us of the God who led our Fathers every step of the way by which they advanced to the character of an independent nation. For if we do not have the gr ace to thank Thee for all that we have and enjoy, how can we have the effr ontery to Thy further blessings? God, give us grateful hearts. For Jesus' sake. Amen. "
What are you most grateful for and why?

" When the Son of Man comes as King, and all the angels wit h Him.....he will say to those on His left...."Whenever you refused to help one of these least important ones, you refused to help me." ~ Matthew 25:31,41, 45
After graduating from Georgetown University, Anne D onahue volunteered a year at New York's Covenant House, a refuge for kids who wanted to quit the streets. Every night she put hot chocolate and sandw iches into a van and toured the city's juvenile prostitution areas. < br>Anne said, "We're out there because many kids haven't tried Covenant Ho use yet. We show the kids somebody cares - somebody not interested in explo iting them." At first I was very depressed. What kind of God would let k ids suffer so much? Finally it hit me. God's not going to come do wn and show us His love. We have to let God's love shine through us. ~ Mark Link S. J.

"Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly; do not claim to be wiser than you are. Do not re pay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all. If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peacefully w ith all." ~ Romans 12:16-18
We can spread peace, not disc ord, wherever we go. We can try to be part of the cure of every situation , not part of the problem. We can work patiently to make things better. We can always try to build up, never to tear down. We can show others by our example that happiness comes from living the right way. The power of our ex ample is greater than the power of what we say. ~ Fr. Pat Umberger

"Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves." ~ Philippians 2:3
As head football coach of Colorado Buffaloes, I have an intense desire to beat our arch-rival, Nebraska. Unfortunately, when we facing t hem in 1991, we had not won when we played in Lincoln for twenty-three years. So, before the game, I brought the team together and explained that we spend 80 percent of our time thinking about ourselves and 1 4 percent thinking about others. I said, "Men, we're going t o put the final score of the game on sixty footballs, and send them to eac h person you've designated in advance. I'm requiring any player who wants t o get on that airplane to Nebraska to dedicate this game to somebody other than himself. I want you to tell that person that they ought to watch you o n every play. Tell them that you are going to play with all your heart, an d that you're playing this game for them. Then, I wa...

"Give thanks to God the Father always and for everything in the name of Our Lord Jesus Christ." ~ Ephesians 5:20
Almig hty God, Father of all mercies, We, thine unworthy servants, do five thee most humble and hearty thanks for all thy goodness and loving-kindnes s to us, and to all men. We bless thee for our creation, preservation , and al the blessings of this life; but above all for thine inestimable l ove in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ; for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory. And, we beseech thee, give us that due sense of all thy mercies, that our hearts may be unfeignedly thankful ; and that we show forth thy praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives, by holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ o ur LORD, to whom, with thee and the Holy Ghost, be all honor and glory, world without end.
Amen. ~ Book of Prayers
