Have you ever wondered what hap pened to some of the 56 men who signed the Declaration of Independence?

Five signers were captured by the British as traitors, and tortured be fore they died. Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned. Two lost their sons serving in the Revolutionary Army; another had two sons captured. Ni ne of the 56 fought and died from wounds or hardships of the Revolutionary War.

They signed and pledged their lives, their fortunes, and thei r sacred honor. What kind of men were they?

Mar ia Goretti was known for her cheerful and holy disposition. While home alon e on day, Maria was assaulted bye Alessandro Serenelli, an eighteen-year- old neighbor. She resisted his sexual advances. Enraged, the young man rep eatedly stabbed her with a dagger. Maria was taken to a hospital, where sh e forgave her attacker and expressed concern for her family; she later die d.

Serenelli was sentenced to prison for thirty years. For th e next eight yearshe was unrepentant but then he had a dream in which Maria was gathering flowers and presenting them to him. Moved by this experience , Alessandro's life changed;and his first action upon being released from prison was to visit Maria's mother and beg forgiveness. According to a rec ent radio report, a middle school in Oregon was faced with a unique proble m. A number of girls were beginning to use lipstick and would put it on in the bathroom. That was fine, but then they were pressing their lips to the mirrors leaving dozens of little lip prints. Finally the principal decided that something had to be done. She called all the girls to the bathroom an d met them there with the custodian.

She explained that all t hese lip prints were causing a major problem for the custodian who had to c lean the mirrors every day. To demonstrate how difficult it was to maintain the mirrors, she asked the custodian to clean one of the mirrors. He took out a long-handled brush, dipped it into the toilet and scrubbed the mirr or.
