The prophet Hos ea speaks of God's love and forgiveness in a touching way. Speaking in God' s name, he says:
When Israel was a child, I loved&nbs p;him and called him out of Egypt... But the more I called to him, the more he turned away from me. .. Yet I was the one who taught Israel to walk... How can I abandon ( Israel)?... My heart will not let me do it! My love for you is too strong. I will not punish you in my anger ... For I am God and not man. I, the Holy One, am with you.. . I will not come to you in anger (Hosea 11:1-3, 8-9) ~ Ma rk Link, S.J.
How does this passage impact you when you re-read it in a whisper, imagining that God is saying 'The Knights' or y our name in place of the words referring to Israel (in italics )?
"(LORD), your goodness and love will be with...

John Howard Griffin dyed his skin black, shaved his head, and posed as a black man in the South in the pre-civil-r ights days. One day, he asked for a Catholic church. He was given directio ns to the nearest "colored Catholic church." "There's no such thing as a colored Catholic church," Griffin replied.
His informant said, "You don't really believe that, do you?...You're going to find tha t a lot of white Catholics look on you as a nigger first and a Catholic sec ond, no matter what the Archbishop says." ~ John H. Griffin, excerpted fr om Racist Sins of Christians

"Be watchful, stand firm in your faith, be courageous, be strong." ~ 1 Corinthians 16:13
One simple fact often overlooked is that Christian, and especially Catholic, faith is not supposed to be a cakewalk. The gospel is replete with exhortations to "be courageous, be strong." This is not the sort of exhortation one receives at vacation resor ts or mattress testing sites. It is the sort of thing one hears in athletic training, or before a trial, or in preparation for some rigorous voyage. And that is because the Christian walk is a place of training, trial and travel. We are going somewhere and we need to be prepared to get there. Tha t somewhere is Heaven and it will require everything of us just as it requi red everything of God. Not that we earn it, of course, but rather that we must be ready to receive fully what God has given. ~ Dr. Scott Hahn
Today, ask God to help you be courageous and strong in your faith, that you may fully receive into yourself the love of the Bles...

"The Spirit of the LORD God is upon me, because the LORD ha s anointed me to bring good tidings to the afflicted; the has sent me to b ind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the op ening of the prison to those who are bound." ~ Isaiah 61:1
If yo u are afflicted, brokenhearted, or captive, this is the sign, not of yo ur rejection by God, but of his special tender love for you. In Christ Cru cified, God is right there next to you. He will never abandon you, just a s he did not abandon Jesus even at the hour of abandonment itself. Even at the very bottom, God is there. And he knows the way out. He walked out him self on Easter morning. ~ Dr. Scott Hahn and Jeff Cavins

"And now I am no more in the world, but they are in the wor ld, and I am coming to thee. Holy Father, keep them in thy name, which t hou hast given me, that they man be one, even as we are one." ~ John 17:11
Among other things, Mass is the sacrament of the unity of the Body of Christ. When someone tells us, "I'll be there in spirit!", we know they really mean, "I won't be there". Jesus knew that too, which is why he did not leave us as orphans but remains with us, not only in Sp irit, but in the sacramental presence of the Holy Eucharist. In the same w ay, he now calls us to be members of one another, not just "in spirit" bu t for real. That means we are not only "together" in our hearts, but reall y together in the same room, offering the same prayers, making the same p hysical gestures, hearing the same Scriptures, offering the same bread an d wine and receiving the same Body and Blood of Christ. As we do this, we are, by the promise of Christ, joined not only to each other but...

"I beg you to be kind and listen to our brief account." ~ i>Acts 24:4
Erma was waiting for her flight. It felt good just sitti ng and reading a book, with no one to bother her. Just then a woman sat do wn and said, "Bet it's cold in Chicago." Erma said coldly, "Probably". Th e kept talking, and Erma kept responding coldly. Then the woman dropped th e bombshell. She was taking her husband back to Chicago. He had died after 53 years of marriage. Erma's heart sank. She closed her book, held the wom an's hand, and listened.
When the call to board came, they walked arm in arm to the plane. Then they went to their assigned seats, wh ich were a few rows apart. As Erma buckled up, she heard the woman say to the person next to her, "Bet it's cold in Chicago." Erma found herself pra ying: "Dear God, help the person next to her listen kindly." ~ Mark Link, S.J.

"And you, child, will be called prophet of the Most High, for you will go before the LORD to prepare his ways." ~ Luke 1:7 6
Joel Weldon, and expert on human potential, likes to tell about the Chinese bamboo tree. This unusual plant takes five years to emerge from the soil. All during these five years, however, it has to be watered and fertilized. Once the plant emerges, it skyrockets to a height of 90 feet in six short weeks. The plant's rapid growth is made possible by the elabor ate root system that developed during the five years of germination.
John the Baptist, like Jesus, spent 30 years preparing for his ministry. It was the most important time of his life. For during this time he was pu tting down the elaborate spiritual root system that made possible his fruit ful ministry in later life. ~ Author unknown
