In San Antonio, Texas, there is a large a nd lovely statue of St. Anthony of Padua, the patron saint of the city. Th e statue was a gift of Portugal (Anthony's birthplace) to San Antonio. It s tands in a public park along the San Antonio River in the heart of the city . The Christ child in Anthony's arms stands on the Bible and his arms are e xtended in the shape of the cross as if embracing the whole world - as if A nthony is saying: "I hold up to all, as Savior of the world, this humble God of self-emptying love!"

The image of Anthony holding the divine infant is a symbol and model for each of us. The image inspires us t o go through life clinging to the wonderful mystery of...

Patriotism is a positive attitude for believers. The Pledge o f Allegiance reads:

Patriotism to our nation is a secondary allegiance under the general umbrella of covenant loyalty to God. We are submitted to God's authority, and are therefore submitted to every authority that He allows on earth (Ro mans 13:1-7). In the allegiance to the country in which we dwell, we have a covenantal obligation to seek its welfare. Seek the peace of the city. .. and pray to the LORD for it; for in its peace you will have peace&n bsp;(Jeremiah 29:5-7). When we pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States, we are not doing it in a blind loyalty which says, "My country - right or wrong." We recognize the flag as a symbol ...

John had told people to be baptized as a sign of their commitment to turn away from sin and back to God. This raises a question: W hy was the sinless Jesus baptized? By becoming one of us, Jesus bec ame a member of our sinful human family.

He would not separate himse lf from us - even in our sinfulness. Thus, he teaches us an important less on. We cannot separate ourselves from our sinful human family either, espe cially from its "family" sins: disregard for the poor, disrespect for life in all forms, discrimination against human differences. ~ Author unknown< br>
If Jesus was crucified for our "family" sins, what should we as Kni ghts do about these sins?

All foster fathers n eed only look to Saint Joseph for strength. We know Joseph was a man of fai th, obedient to whatever God asked of him without knowing the outcome. Whe n the angel came to Joseph in a dream and told him the truth about the chil d Mary was carrying, Joseph immediately and without question or concern fo r gossip, took Mary as his wife.

When the angel came again to tell him that his family was in danger, he immediately left everything he owned , all his family and friends, and fled to a strange country with h is young wife and baby. He waited in Egypt without question until the angel told him it was safe to go back. When looking for the epitome of fatherhoo d, one need look no further than Saint Joseph himself. ~ Author unknown

At four, Ayinde Jean-Baptiste memorized Martin Luther King's "I Have A Dream " speech. At twelve, he mesmerized a vast throng of men gathered in Washin gton, DC, for the Million Man March with a two-minute oration on fatherho od. Ayinde wrote it with the help of his father and mother. An excerpt read s:
