"When you pray, go to your room, close the door, and pray to your Father, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what you do in private, will reward you." ~ Matthew 6:6
Rabbi David Wolpe auth ored the book, Teaching Your Child About God. He tells a story abou t a boy who began wandering into the nearby woods. This concerned the child 's father, so one day he said, "I have noticed that each afternoon you wa nder off into the woods. What do you do in such a dangerous place?"
The child said, "I go there to find God."
"That is a good th ing; I'm glad that you are searching for God," said the father. "But, my child, don't you know that God is the same everywhere?" "Yes," the boy a nswered, "but I'm not." ~ Mark Link, S.J.
What is the point of Rab bi Wolpe's story? Is there a place where you readily find God?

When the Spa nish explorer Hernando Cortez landed in Mexico in 1519, he was intent on c onquest. To ensure the devotion of his men, he set fire to this fleet of e leven ships. With no means of retreat, Cortez's army had only one directio n to move, into the Mexican interior. Cortez understood the price of commi tment and he paid for it.
The apostle Paul also understood th e price of dedication. After assuring us of our victory in Christ, he call s on us to burn our ships, bridges, or anything else that ties us to our destructive former life. Furthermore, he challenges us to commit ourselves completely to God (see above scripture). Is Paul asking a lot? Yes! But he 's not asking too much. He begins his exhortation with the word 'therefore' because he wants to point us back to everything he...

"Happy are those who work for peace: God will call them his children!" ~ Matthew 5:9
Although Truman hastened the war's end with his controversial decision to drop the atom bomb, he ordered a "peace statement" to be made on the nation's presidential seal. It was used to sh ow an eagle with arrows (war) in one talon and the olive branch (peace) in the other. Early versions had the eagle face the arrows. Truman ordered all future versions to show the eagle facing the olive branch, to symbolize t hat our nation was turned toward peace, not war. ~ Mark Link, S.J.

If God is causing all thi ngs in your life to work together for good, then you can thank Him for wha tever your're encountering. God is in charge. God is in control. And when y our life seems but a wasted heap, remember that He works wonders with raw materials. It pleases the LORD when we subjugate our will to His: "LORD< I submit this to You. I don't know how to deal with it, so I just thank You for it and I believe Your Word." ~ Charles Stanley

E nsworth Reisner remembers a minister who had very little money and was just scraping by. One day, a destitute family came to him. The minister was mo ved to pity and gave them all the money he had on hand. Then, as they left , he said, "Thank you for the privilege of letting me help you."
R eisner says. "Those remarkable words taught me an important lesson. When pe ople give you the opportunity to help them, they give you the opportunity to be like God. And for that we should give them thanks." ~ Mark Link, S.J .
What keeps us, as Knights, from having the same attitude that En sworth Reisner has?
