A.J. Cronin began his professional career as a physician. Late r he turned to writing. In Adventures in Two Worlds, he says that as a medical student he felt "superior" to those gullible, uneducated folks who still clung to "outworn myths.".He could only "smile" at their f aith in the existence of God and the human soul. Then he added:
"But when, as a qualified doctor, I went out into the world, to the mining v alleys in South Wales and... assisted at the miracle of birth (and) sat wit h the dying in the still hours of the night... I lost my superiority, and this, though I was not then aware of it, is the first step toward finding God." ~ Mark Link, S.J.
