Patriotism is a positive attitude for believers. The Pledge o f Allegiance reads:
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United Sta tes of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under G od, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Patriotism to our nation is a secondary allegiance under the general umbrella of covenant loyalty to God. We are submitted to God's authority, and are therefore submitted to every authority that He allows on earth (Ro mans 13:1-7). In the allegiance to the country in which we dwell, we have a covenantal obligation to seek its welfare. Seek the peace of the city. .. and pray to the LORD for it; for in its peace you will have peace&n bsp;(Jeremiah 29:5-7).
