During the Vietnam War , Father Capodanno would listen to the confessions of young Marines. The wo rds of absolution, marked by the sign of the cross, were followed by reas surance that together they would see each other through this time of trial. Father Vincent would then present the young man with one of the hundreds o f Saint Christopher medals he made.
Legend says that Christopher, m eaning "Christ bearer," was a giant of a man who made his living carrying people across a river. One day, a small child asked him for a lift. When C hristopher placed him on his shoulders, he found the child was unbelievabl y heavy.
