[All day event] CHARITY is an outstretched hand

A nurse escorted a tired, anxiou s young man to the bedside of an elderly man. "Your son is here," she whis pered to the old man. He was heavily sedated because of the pain of his hea rt attack. He dimly saw the young man standing outside his oxygen tent. He extended his hand and the young man wrapped his fingers tightly around it, squeezing a message of encouragement. All through the night the young man held the old man's hand, offering gentle words of hope.
As dawn app roached, the old man died. The young man placed the lifeless hand he had b een holding on the bed, and then he went to notify the nurse. "Who was tha t man?" He asked. The startled nurse replied, "I thought he was your fathe r?" "No," he answered. "I never saw him before in my life." "Then why didn 't you say something?" asked the nurse.
He replied, "I also knew he needed his son, and his son just wasn't here. When...
