Tip O'Neill was a member of t he House of Representatives for 34 years. In the memoirs of his political l ife, Tip says that he'll never forget a day in Missouri in 1960 when he wa s with Jack Kennedy in a campaign parade. He wrote:
"Somebody mentioned that in the neighborhood we were driving through there was a good deal of c oncern over the Catholic issue. Then we passed a Catholic school, with all the nuns standing outside, holding their Kennedy signs. 'Stop the car,' said Jack. He gout out and shook hands with all the sisters, and I loved h im for it." ~ Mark Link, S.J.
