American servicemen came hom e from the Pacific with all kinds of remembrances. Cyril O'Brien treasures one, especially. It is a small holy picture of Our Lady.

One day, on the island of Guam, his patrol encountered three Japanese soldie rs. A volley of gunfire followed. Routinely, the patrol checked the dead s oldiers for grenades and possible intelligence material O'Brien put his han d into the pocket of one of the Japanese solders. It contained a picture of Mary. It was the pocket over the soldier's heart.

"At the cr oss her station keeping,
Stood the mournful Mother weeping,
Close t o Jesus to the last.

Through her heart, his sorrow sharing,

God 's holiness and universal reign awed Isaiah. Why has God sent you to your world?

Respect Life Month is drawing to a close, what has our Council accomplished during this time?

Will our efforts now cease a nd move on to less burdensome endeavors?
