Thomas Jefferson was the autho r of the Declaration of Independence and the 3rd President of the United St ates. He once said: "The care of human life and happiness, and not their d estruction, is the first and only object of good government."
Yet, today, thousands of "legalized" abortions destroy human life each day in the country that Jefferson helped to found. Meanwhile, several million U.S . couples are on agency lists, waiting to adopt a child. ~ Mark Link S.J.< br> How do you explain the drift from the thinking of our founding fathe rs to the practice of modern citizens?

All Saints' Day is for all the known and unknown saints who have died and gone before us and who are at rest with Christ. Simply put, to be a saint is to do God's will eac h day throughout one's life to the best of one's ability. This is God's cal l for each of us who have been brought into His Body, the Church, through Baptism. The origin of this feast day can be traced back to the 4th centur y. Ephrem of Syria and John Chrysostom, both Eastern Church Fathers, call ed this day the feast of martyrs of the whole world. Pope Gregory IV (827-8 44) made November 1st as the feast day for all the Saints. ~ Catholic Encyc lopedia

He comes even closer in good men and women, closer still in his saints, closer still in the grea test saint, Mary, and closest of all in the person of the God-Man Jesus C hrist. Draw near to these (and especially to Jesus, who is present in all His saints and most especially in the Holy Eucharist), and He will draw ne ar to you. ~ Dr. Scott Hahn and Jeff Cavins

" People would take their sick to the marketplaces and beg J esus to let the sick at least touch the edge of his cloak. And all who touc hed it were made well." ~ Mark 6:56
England was involved in the Crimean War in Russia from 1845 to 1856. The wounded were laid side by side in makeshift hospitals that were dirty, overcrowded, and understaffed. T he wind blew the stench from open sewers, making breathing difficult. Rats ran wild. Into this incredible, hopeless situation came Florence Nighting ale and 38 nurses she had trained in England. Sometimes she spent 20 hours straight on her feet, directing sanitation efforts and bandaging the wound ed. The bedridden soldiers worshiped here and would "kiss her shadow as it fell across their pillows." If the sick and the needy are to experience Jesus' healing presence today, it must be through loving, cari ng people. ~ Mark Link, S. J.
