"The LORD is near all who call upon Him in truth." ~ Psa lm 145:18
The Washington Post carried a six-pane l cartoon strip. Panel one shows the head of a sleeping unborn infant, his head on his arms. The words were: "It was a big day for the little one! He was just minutes away from being America's newest citizen!" In Panel two, the baby's eyes are open: "The time had come!" The baby's head and shoulde rs have moved toward the bottom of Panel three: "He was being pushed throug h a small place!" Only the head remains in Panel four: "He felt air touch h is body for the first time! His hands were free!". In Panel five: "Then he felt a sharp pain at the base of his skull! He jerked violently! And then.. ..it was over...." The sixth Panel shows the facade of the Supreme Court: " And the Supreme Court, in its wisdom, asks, "So, what's the problem!?" The following are the musings of a strong ly devout man and his efforts to find a shortcut to the Indies:
At a very early age I began to sail upon the ocean. I prayed to the most mercif ul LORD about my heart's great desire, and He gave me the spirit and the i ntelligence for the task. It was the LORD who put into my mind th e fact that it would be possible to sail from here to the Indies. all who h eard of my project rejected it with laughter, ridiculing me. But no one should fear to undertake any task in the name of our Savior, if it is jus t and if the intention is purely for His holy service.... Oh what a graciou s LORD.... Day and night, moment by moment, everyone should express to Hi m their devoted gratitude. ~ Christopher Columbus, Book of Prophecies i>

"I do have faith, but not enough. Help me have more!" ~ Mark 9:24
Saint Augustine was walking along a beach. He was l ost in meditation on the central mystery of Christianity, the Holy Trinity: "How could God be three and one at the same time?" Suddenly, his attenti on was drawn to a little girl carrying a small container of water from the sea to a hole she had dug on the beach. What are you doing? he asked her.&n bsp; With childlike simplicity, she replied: "I'm emptying the sea int o this hole." Then he stopped dead and thought: "I am trying to do what tha t little girl is doing - trying to crowd the infinite Creator into the fini te creation of my little mind." ~ Mark Link S.J.

"Be still and know that I am God." ~ Psalm 46:10
Disillusioned by life with good reason to frown, I thought the w orld was intent on dragging me down. And if that weren't enough t o ruin my day, A young boy out of breath approached me, all tir ed from play, He stood right before me with his head tilted down And said with great excitement, "Look what I found!" Wanting him to take h is dead flower and go off to play, I faked a small smile and then shift ed away. He declared, "It sure smells pretty and it's beautiful, too.< br>That's why I picked it; here, it's for you." But instead of placing the flower in my hand, He held it mid-air without reason or pla n. It was then that I noticed for the very first time That weed-totin g boy could not see; he was blind. I heard my voice quiver; tears shon e in the sun As I thanked him for picking the very best one. "You're welcome," he smiled, and then ran off to play, Unawa...
