"His left arm is under my head, and his right arm embraces me." ~ Song of Songs 2:6
To most women affection symbolizes secu rity, protection, comfort, and approval, vitally important commodities in their eyes. When a husband shows his wife affection, he sends several m essages to her -
I'll take care of you and protect you. You a re important to me, and I don't want anything to happen to you. I'm concer ned about the problems you face, and I am with you. I'm so proud of you.&n bsp;
Men need to understand how strongly women need these affirmati ons and that there can hardly be enough of them. From a woman's point of vi ew, affection is the essential cement of her relationship with a man. ~ Wi llard Harley, adapted from His Needs, Her Needs

"Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the LORD our Maker..." ~ Psalm 95:6
I want to ask you, Dad: When w as the last time your children saw you on your knees, seeking direction fr om God? That's and unmistakable lesson to a child. To be a spiritual man yo u must take time to talk to Him and to listen to him through His Word. The regularity of this meeting, not its length, is the important thing. When you're running late, pause long enough to get on your knees and tell the L ORD, "I am committing this day to you. Late as I am, I am not leaving thi s house without getting on my knees before You." God will reward that commi tment.
Your attitude of mind covers your home. When your attention i s focused on the Truth, you are exercising the mind of Christ. When I thin k as Christ thinks, I am loving my wife and children more faithfully; I a m more sensitive to the needs of those around me. Apart from Christ, you c annot be the man, the husband, and the father you can ...

"I have strength to face all conditions by the power that Ch rist gives me." ~ Philippians 4:13
I sought for the greatness and genius of America in her vast world commerce, and it was not th ere. Not until I went into the churches of America and heard her p ulpits, aflame with righteousness, did I understand the secr et of her genius and power. America is great because she is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be gre at. ~ Alexis de Tocqueville
Tocqueville was a great observer of earl y American democratic life. In what areas today would he be critical of the state of the union?
"A patriot without religion in my estimation is as great a paradox as an honest man without the fear of God. Is it poss ible that he whom no moral obligations bind, can have any real good will t owards men? Can he be a patriot who, b an openly vicious conduct, is unde rmining the very bonds of society?... "I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the king dom of God like a little child will never enter it. And He took the childre n in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them." ~ Mark 10:15-1 6
We were crowded in the cabin, Not a soul would dare to sleep - It was midnight on the waters, And a storm was on the deep.< br> So we shuddered there in silence - For the stoutest held his brea th, While the hungry seas was roaring And the breakers talked with Death.
But this little daughter whispered, As she took his icy hand, "Isn't God upon the ocean, Just the same as on the Land? "
Then we kissed the little maiden, And we spoke in better cheer , And we anchored safe in harbor When the morn was shining clear. ~ James T. Fields, The Captain's Daughter

"Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your p rayers." ~ 1 Peter 3:7
Affection is so important for women that they become confused when their husbands don't respond in like kind. A wife may call her husband at work, just to talk. She often feels disappointed when he cuts it short. It doesn't mean he doesn't love her; he simply has different priorities because of a different set of basic needs. My needs fo r protection, approval, and care are not the same as hers, nor are they met in similar ways. I've had to discover these differences and act accordi ngly. When we walk through a shopping center, it is important to her that we hold hands, something that would never occur to me. But I'm glad to do so, because I know she enjoys that and it says something she wants to hear . If that simple act makes her feel loved and che...

"For where two or three have gathered in My name, I am ther e in their midst." ~ Matthew 18:19-21
An inscription near the to mb of Saint Phiomena tomb read "Peace be with thee, Philomena." Near her b ones was discovered a small glass vial, containing the remains of blood. B ecause it was a popular custom of the early martyrs to leave symbols and si gns such as these, it was determined that St. Philomena was a virgin and a martyr. She was venerated by other saints such as St. John Vianney, St. M adeleine Sophie Barat, St. Peter Eymard, and St. Peter Chanel. After hund reds of other miraculous cures, she was beatified in 1837. The pope dubbed her the Patroness of the Living Rosary and the Patroness of the Children o f Mary. She is the only person recognized as a saint solely on the basis of her powerful intercession, although revelations regarding her life have b een recorded. ~ J.M. Guerin

"Be on your guard, stand firm in the faith, be men of cour age, be strong." ~ 1 Corinthians 16:13
In 1881, Father McGivne y began to explore the idea of a Catholic, fraternal benefit society. In a era when parish clubs and fraternal societies had wide popular appeal, th e young priest felt there should be some way to strengthen religious faith and at the same time provide for the financial needs of families overwhelme d by illness or death of the breadwinner. Father McGiveny had suggested "So ns of Columbus" as a name for the Order. This would bind Catholicism and Am ericanism together through the faith and bold vision of the New World's exp lorer (see October 12th entry). The word "knights" replaced "sons" b ecause Irish-born Civil War veterans wanted to apply a noble ritual in supp ort of the emerging cause of Catholic civil liberty. The Order's principles in 1882 were UNITY and CHARITY. The concepts of FRATERNITY and PATRIOTISM were added later. These Columbus-linked themes ...
