Glenn Van Ekeren gives seminars on maximizing human potential. He is fond of telling the story about a basketball coach who had the rare art of inspiring teams with the courage to fight back when things looked impossible. During the h alftime of one difficult game, he stood before the team and yelled, "Did Michael Jordan ever quit?" The team yelled back, "No!"

The coach ye lled, "Did Cal Ripken, Jr. ever quit?" The team yelled, "No!" "What abou t the Wright brothers? Did they quit?" "No!" yelled the team. Young Joseph of Cupertino labored under a learning disability and was considered dull and clumsy. When he tried to enter religious life, he was turned down by one monastery after another. Finally, in spite of his disab ility, a Franciscan group agreed to accept him.

Joseph acquired eno ugh knowledge to be ordained a priest. Eventually, many miracles were attr ibuted to him and many credible people, including Pope Urban VIII, saw hi m "levitate" while praying. His constant admonition to people was "Pray, p ray, pray!" ~ Mark Link, S.J.
