"The people honored Joshua all his life, just as they had h onored Moses." ~ Joshua 4:14
Alec Guinness played the British co lonel in The Bridge on the River Kwai. His autobiography, Blessi ng in Disguise, describes a moving episode that began to thaw hi s anti-Catholicism and prepare the way for his becoming a Catholic.
He was in a film being shot in France. One night, dressed as a priest, he was walking to the film site. A small boy ran up, grabbed his hand, swun g it playfully, and prattled on nonstop. Alec wrote: "He obviously took me for a priest and so to be trusted. Suddenly with a 'Bon soir, mon pere', ... he disappeared... I was left with an odd calm sense of elation. Contin uing my walk, I reflected that a Church which could inspire such confidenc e in a child, making its priests... so easily approachable could not be as scheming and creepy as so often made out." ~ Mark Link, S.J.

"I stretch out my hands to You; My soul longs for You, as a parched land." ~ Psalm 143:6
A nurse escorted a tired, anxiou s young man to the bedside of an elderly man. "Your son is here," she whis pered to the old man. He was heavily sedated because of the pain of his hea rt attack. He dimly saw the young man standing outside his oxygen tent. He extended his hand and the young man wrapped his fingers tightly around it, squeezing a message of encouragement. All through the night the young man held the old man's hand, offering gentle words of hope.
As dawn app roached, the old man died. The young man placed the lifeless hand he had b een holding on the bed, and then he went to notify the nurse. "Who was tha t man?" He asked. The startled nurse replied, "I thought he was your fathe r?" "No," he answered. "I never saw him before in my life." "Then why didn 't you say something?" asked the nurse.
He replied, "I also knew he needed his son, and his son just wasn't here. When...

"A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed." ~ Proverbs 11:25
The most contented and s uccessful businessmen of my acquaintance are those who say sincerely: "God owns my business." Each of them acknowledges a responsibility to be as good an employee as possible for God. What they have learned is an attitude of trust - the belief that God knows what's best for us, His children. Puttin g our entire lives into His hands (yes, even our bankbooks and our mortgag e payments!), will not result in some kind of catastrophe. Have you thanke d God for your home? When you go to the grocery store, are you consciously grateful that you can pay for your family's needs? Have you asked God to b less your automobile with safety of operation? Have you offered to use it a s He directs? Do you feel that tithing is giving God something of yours - o r do you see it as returning to Him a fraction of what is already His? ~ Br ock Thoene, Protecting Your Income and Your...

On this date in 1981, in Fatima, Portugal, Pope John Paul II said to the million of people attending: "On this very day last year... in Rome, the attempt on my life was made in mysterious coincidence with t he anniversary of the first apparition at Fatima on May 13, 1917. I seemed to recognize in the coincidence of the date a special call to come to this place. And so today I am here."
After Mass, the Holy Father asked Mary, the mother of Jesus, to intercede for the world as she did for the married couple at Cana. He ended by asking the Spirit for this grace: "Let there be revealed once more in the history of the world the infinite power of merciful love." ~ Mark Link, S.J.
How is the infinite power of G od's love being revealed through the works of the Knights right now?

"What profit would there be for one to gain the whole world and forfeit his life?" ~ Matthew 16:26
In 1917 Theordore Rooseve lt expressed well the priority in each our lives to attend church in commun ity. He suggested that in this world a churchless community, a community w here men have abandoned and scoffed at or ignored their religious needs, i s a community on the rapid downgrade. He argued that while marriages could be dissolved through divorce, if done so on a wide scale, would mean the complete moral disintegration of our society.
He admonished all to a ttend Sunday church as a family. He acknowledged the argument of many who d o not go, that they can worship anywhere, that it didn't need to be done in a Church. But he went on to say, "I also know as a matter of cold fact the average man does not thus worship or thus dedicate himself."
We should listen closely to our pastor's sermons. You may not always hear a go od sermon, but it will be a sermon by a good man...
