They would have been hap py, but they were in great dread of their enemy, the quail hunter. He wou ld tick them by mocking their call and then capturing them with a great net . The wise quail said, "Brothers! When the fowler throws his net over us. let each one put his head through a mesh in the net and then all will lift it up together and fly away with it!" The next day, the fowl er threw his net, and the birds escaped as they had planned. This continue d for many days, and the fowler's wife grew angry. The fowler explained, "The trouble is tat all the birds are working together and helping one anot her." A few days later, one of the quails accidentally trod on the head of one of his brothers.
