Using a wide-mouthed Mason jar , he filled it with a dozen fist-sized rocks. Then he asked, "Is this jar full?" Everyone in the class said, "Yes." "Really?" He then poured some gravel into the jar as he shook it, causing the gravel to work its w ay between the big rocks. Then he smiled and asked, "Is the jar full?" By this time the class was on to him. "No," one of them answered. "Good!" he replied. Then he used a bucket of sand to fill the gaps left between the ro cks and the gravel. Once more he asked, "Is this jar full?"
