FRATERNITY knowing a friend would come

A platoon of U.S. troops was d riven back and one of their infantrymen was wounded by gunfire. As he lay o n the battlefield, a friend asked his sergeant in the foxhole, "Can I go get 'im?" Those last few words were all the friend needed to hear. Craw ling on elbows and knees he reached the bleeding infantryman, hoisted him to his shoulders, and hobbled back. As he neared the foxhole, the heroic friend was hit in the chest with a bullet and the two friends collapsed in a heap. The sergeant tried to find the pulse of the infantryman and there w as none.
